Post from the Cave

Editors often work in small, dimly lit spaces, tucked away from the outside world — the editor’s “cave,” you might say. It’s in this space that we dig through hours of footage, shape scenes, and slowly uncover the story. We build something with a beginning, middle, and end — and for me, that’s the fun of it.

I became an editor because I’m drawn to storytelling — not just the outcome, but the creative challenge of finding the heart in raw footage. For over 20 years, I’ve honed my craft, paying close attention to shot selection, pacing, music, and emotional impact. One "cave" at a time.

Today’s editor needs more than strong storytelling instincts — they need a wide and ever-expanding toolset. While some stick strictly to offline editing, I’ve always been equally drawn to the online side of post. Over the years, I’ve built up skills in motion graphics, VFX, 3D elements, and colour correction. I enjoy adding the final polish — giving a project the style, energy, and yes, occasionally a lens flare — that helps it really come alive.

Sound is just as important as picture. I put just as much care into the audio as I do the visuals — working with dialogue, ambient sound, music, narration, and effects to create a full, immersive experience. As a lifelong musician, my editing setup also doubles as a home recording studio. I use it to record voiceovers, mix tracks, experiment with effects, and repair audio when needed. I’ve also written and recorded original music for intros and bumpers on my YouTube series Surprise! It’s a Guitar.

Alongside the creative, I’ve always prioritized understanding the technical side of post-production. Great workflows don’t happen by accident — they’re planned. From the days of standard-definition to today’s constantly evolving specs, formats, and compression standards, I’ve delivered content for broadcast, web, and everything in between. I take pride in making the process smooth, efficient, and delivery-ready from day one.

I’m equally comfortable working solo or collaborating closely with directors, producers, and clients. I know how to listen, take feedback, and offer clear insight into my creative choices when needed. Every project has its own voice — and I enjoy helping find it.

Okay, now back to the cave.
